We can all fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others.   It sneaks up on us like a sultry snake ready to attack our inner peace.  I find that it is most powerful when I am at an emotional low.  It taunts me and leads me to believe that what I have isn’t good enough.

Today, I write a different story.  Sizing myself up against others isn’t playing on a level playing field.  Truth be told, we don’t know the story behind the confident smile or the designer handbag.  We are left assuming that their life is movie perfect.   Guess what?  It probably isn’t.    I know that my content factor is full because I no longer look at others with an envious heart.   The reason is that I am fulfilled today.   Yes, I have my challenges, but those make me who I am.

My life is perfectly imperfect.   I have a crazy life with an active family.  In the midst of writing my column, I advocate for my son with Down Syndrome, clean up dog hair and cat hair balls, live in my car, and are usually in my pajamas by 4 pm.  With all of that and more going on, I would not trade it for the world.  I am living a wonderful life.

So, when you are consumed with envy and compare yourself to someone else, remember, you are enough, you do enough, and the world is a better place with you in it.  Happiness and contentment begin within yourself.
