June 1 marks the beginning of a month long celebration of me.   Okay, so that sounds a little egotistical, but as the baby of my family, that’s how I roll.   As the years pass, it is no longer about the number, but life’s progression.   Yes, I am aware that some people are fixated even obsessed with each passing year and the number that stands in the way of the joy of celebrating.    Numbers are just numbers.

I certainly don’t buy into the popular saying “40 is the new 30 or 50 is the new 40”.  Those are mere ways we make each other feel better about our age.  Frankly,  there are times I actually have to think about how old I am.  While that could be a sign of senility, I will take it.

While looking backwards affords me the luxury of reflection, I am eager to look forward.  Anticipating the exciting opportunities that lie in wait, I am enveloped by a childlike giddiness.  Sure, there are going to be tough times, that’s life, but for me, I want to open my eyes to all the good stuff.

Every moment I draw breath is a cause for celebration.   It might sound simple, but by dwelling on the number we lose sight of the big picture.   Whatever is in the past is gone, it is time to look ahead and prepare because the best is yet to come.
