I jumped on the social media bandwagon just like everyone else.   It became a way to reconnect with old friends and have fake relationships with people that I either barely know or don’t know at all.    With my job as a columnist, it became an important part of my job to be accessible on every social media site I could find or navigate.  I am a slow learn, so I picked three that I could easily understand.

While I would love it to be all rainbows and butterflies, it seems to be leaning towards a sewage plant.  As my husband so eloquently states, “opinions are like assholes, everyone has one”.    I tend to have no opinion on outside issues as they are not residing within my hula hoop.  Anything outside of said hula hoop, is none of my business.  However, I have noticed there is a tendency to not allow someone the respect to have their own opinion, even if it doesn’t jive with the everyone else’s.   So sad, that we are allowed freedom of speech, but are reprimanded or ridiculed if the opinion stated isn’t a popular one.     I have defriended, unfollowed, and blocked a good portion of my “friend” base because I didn’t get on social media to be inundated with negativity, hate, or downright, disrespectful behavior.    People, I just want to watch cute pet videos and figure out how to block all those Candy Crush invitations.

I have lots of opinions, but I don’t feel the need to share them at every turn.   Let’s agree to disagree.   You are not going to agree with everyone.   Move forward. Be kind and respectful of other’s opinion because let’s face it, the younger generation is watching us, and frankly, many of us aren’t very good examples.    Be careful.  It may not be save to swim on social media . (Cue JAWS theme song.)
