Watching people is a favorite pastime.  It is interesting to observe their behaviors, speculating on their lives, and more importantly, ponder at their journey.   However, it takes a different turn when an actual interaction occurs.  I have always considered myself a silent observer, as I have found pointing out annoying quirks is rather rude.  Those conversations I reserve for my loved ones, for they benefit the most from my thoughtful insights. (It is ALWAYS well received, but I digress.)   It never resonated with me that there are actual individuals who find it appropriate to point out your habitual behaviors that they find hideously unacceptable, until recently.

Several times in the last few months, I have encountered such people.  These are not close friends, mind you, but they are individuals who I sometimes find myself in a social situation.    Interestingly enough, the comments are often in passing and never with eye contact.  I sometimes wonder if they are even aware of their rudeness let alone how hurtful it can be, but that would only be if I cared.      One helpful observation was that I used a particular word too much.  I could write an anthology on the annoying habits of said individuals, but for me, I like to focus on the more positive traits those around me offer.

My unprofessional observation of these people is simple, they aren’t capable to be any other way.   Fortunately, I can take what I like and leave the rest knowing that what others see that they feel is “wrong” with me, doesn’t mean it is true.   Instead of being angry, annoyed, or insulted, I remind myself that when others are solely focused on everyone but themselves,  there is more going on with them than meets the eye.
