As human beings, it is only natural that the question of “why” come into play when something horrific happens.  Yesterday, when a beloved city, rich with history, elegance, and romance, comes under siege, it sheds our security.   Even thousands of miles away, we are all affected.

I had an awakening as the events unfolded and again this morning, when a friend pointed out how complacent we can all be.   Watching the world go by, but not really paying attention, and only focusing on our own lives, it leaves us at risk.  Then, when we least expect it, we get a reality check.

I would like to say that I feel safe in my little corner of the world, but I don’t.  I would like to say that I trust the people who are in charge of our safety, but I am hesitant.    The truth is that we are all vulnerable.   It is easy to say, “that won’t happen to us”, but it has and it will again.

As I did my morning prayer, I focused on those blessings that will come out of this unfathomable situation.    Why?  Because, my friends, there are always miracles and blessings, but sometimes, we have to search for them.   Through the ruins, the light will glow and darkness will be no more.   We all need to be the light.  Be more aware.   Be the change you wish to see and pray that our world can overcome the adversity and terror that seems to be seeping into to our safe places.
