I woke up this morning and I was still breathing.  The sun is rising and the earth is still rotating on its axis.   My life hasn’t changed, yet it has.   I have seen numerous posts about explaining how hate won our presidency.   Others are spewing their displeasure for the winning candidate.  Are we going to be apart of the solution or the problem?

For me, I might not like the direction we are going, but I did my part yesterday and the outcome was part of our democratic system.  You all remember that right?  As far as how we explain this to our children, I would like to point to the fact that there are thousands of entities that our children are exposed to that aren’t exactly  role model material, yet that doesn’t seem to phase us.   If I am completely honest, our children learn the most from us.  Be the example YOU wish to see in your kids.  Be mad.  Be sad.  But don’t let this define you.

As I shared yesterday, I will pray for our new president regardless of who it is and I will stand by that.    I have no idea what the future holds, but I can’t be paralyzed in fear over the unknown.  Instead, I need to focus on my little corner of the world and hope that by being that example that I wish to see, it will expand to others.  Our common purpose is this great country and moving forward.    I plan on putting one foot in front of the other and focusing on all the positives that are happening in my life.   Investing in my family is far more important than giving into a doom and gloom mentality.   Seeing how I respond  is the best teaching tool for my boys.
