I took a pledge when I became a parent that I wouldn’t fall into the lame category.  You know, the anti-fun parent who is overly serious.  They are the ones grooming their kid for Yale and they are only two year old.  Yep……those special people.   Parenting is an important job, but like anything else, humor must be one of the main ingredients for success.

A couple of months ago, I had a fathead made of Bryce.  For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is his face enlarged on cardboard.   I had it made in preparation for his high school playoff games as my way of showing how proud I am of him.   Nothing says I love you more than a large photo of your teenage son’s face.   Then I thought about how fun it would be to take it everywhere, capturing photos of it and posting them on social media.   The feedback has been amazing, but that wasn’t the primary goal.   My objective was simply to have fun.  Bryce has got one foot out of the door heading to college and these moments are slipping away.

Parenting is a tough job.   I want to show my kids that I can still be fun, have fun, and most of be able to find humor even when life isn’t very funny.      Life is too short to be so serious.
