I was just moved by a recent interview with Vice-President Joe Biden regarding life and how participation allows you to be the change.  He mentioned the difficulties that we all endure and how pivotal it is that we show up for one another.   It was an excellent reminder on just being available for service and allowing life to touch you, transform you, and most of all, enlighten you.

I can easily get wrapped up into my own corner of the world and forget to reach out to others.  It doesn’t require much.  Sometimes it simply is offering a prayer up or lending a willing ear to someone in crisis.   I am not perfect and I am a creature of self-absorption.  It is easy for me to limit my view of the world and pretend that hardships don’t exist.

It really is about balance.   Being of service doesn’t mean depletion of me.  I can’t solve all the problems of the world.  I can show up for those around me and my community with the willingness to make a difference.  It doesn’t need to be some grand gesture, but for me, even the smallest act fills me up.
