When I woke up this morning, I did what I do every Christmas……I wished Jesus a “Happy Birthday”.   As long as I can remember, that has been my thought upon awakening.  After all, He is the reason for the season.   My other thought this morning were all those that are celebrating the holidays without significant loved ones.   I remember the first Christmas without my Dad.  I was a robot merely going through the motions.  Simply focused on keeping the day as joyful as possible for the boys, all the while feeling incredibly empty.

Christmas has not been the same for me since he died, but that emptiness is not so deep anymore.   We have all experienced some sort of loss that changes us.  Grief does that.  It twists us and leaves us fragmented, but by the grace of God, we are able to move forward amidst the darkness.

So, on this day and everyday, I remember that everyone is fighting their own battles.  We are all on a journey of self-discovery.   Praying for those who might challenge me and hoping that we all find a haven to simply exhale and soak in the peace that is available to us all.
