Long lost are the days where manners reigned supreme and people were more mindful of treating others with respect.    Especially with the added “behind the screen” mentality, people’s boldness is unbelievably crass.   You always hear “I was joking”, but with the written word, it can get lost in translation.

What I adore about many social media platforms is the ability to delete.  You can erase that rude comment, unfriend an unwelcome individual, and even be able to block them as if they don’t exist.    However, there are those individuals that are simply rude on and off social media.   Their lack of manners either not knowing any better or they simply don’t care .  Sadly, that seems to be the state of our society.

There was a comment a few days ago on one of my post that lacked any sort of etiquette or decorum.   And while it really ticked me off, I considered the source and simply deleted it.    If I choose, I can unfriend them as well, but I don’t have to make that decision today.

In a world where disrespect and the lack of accountability for one’s own behavior seems to be the sign of the times, I try really hard to use the “let it begin with me” approach.   With that being said, I don’t have to accept unacceptable behavior.   I also don’t need to take someone’s bad manners personally.   Those are simply a reflection of the person that they are.
