With the remnants of Harvey making its way through Louisville, I am watching the wind blow and the rain rage, while thinking about this past week and all the amazing women in my life that are simply kicking ass.  Many of us are dealing with aging parents and the sadness, frustration, and utter powerlessness that brings to the table.   Others are tending to more personal issues, yet we are showing up for ourselves and each other.

Last night, I sat at a table with just a few of my kickass friends from high school.  Once a month, we eat, drink, laugh, and many times we select a charity that we can all assist. Our conversations no longer center around diaper changing or toddler tantrums.  Instead, we are commiserating on kids growing up, talking about grandchildren being born, menopause, and sometimes, we talk about poop or the lack there of it.   We have no limits to our clever exchanges, but no matter what is going on in our lives, we show up for each other.

I am so blessed to have a wide variety of “sisterships”- my new word that I just made up – because these women surpass the friend arena.   I couldn’t have gotten through a majority of my life events without these women.  So, young moms listen up…..you need to cultivate a posse of “sisters”.  You have to make time to go out and relax with your girlfriends.   These are the ladies that will empower you, lift you up when things suck, show up with flowers just because they love you, text you while you are struggling with something clever that will make you laugh so hard you pee a little (which, unfortunately happens as you age), but most of all – love you no matter what.
