I am always humored by the impending holiday season.   There are those who are going to cram everything they wanted to “resolve” in the new year in the last two months.  Then there are those who will leave their pumpkins on the front porch well into January because who doesn’t love a rotting piece of fruit adding to one’s decor.  Maybe add some tinsel, so at least you have hit two holidays for one.

Then there is me.    Instead of thinking about what I am serving for those upcoming festivities or the gifts I am buying, I purchased a set of battle ropes.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with this impressive piece of equipment, let me introduce you.  During my several years of boot camp, they were a staple.  Thick, weighted rope that look easy, but I assure you, are not.   I was intimidated until I conquered them.   They made me feel empowered.  They made me feel like a badass.   My form was perfection – seriously, our coaches were impressed – and it quickly became a favorite of mine.

I have been in the throes of seeing how much I can challenge myself with kicking this middle-age crap in the ass.    I adore plank (stop rolling your eyes).   I conquered the one minute hold and now am working to extend it.    I am embracing any move that makes me feel alive, that holds my attention for longer than five minutes, and makes me want to workout.  That is no easy challenge to meet.   It is all about being open to the possibilities.

While this week started sluggish, because well, I have felt off and a little out of sync, I am finishing it out strong.   My battle ropes arrive on Monday and while I am not remotely in the holiday groove, they might add a little jingle to the thought.
