If you follow my blog, you already know how much I dislike Mother’s day.  The day specifically engineered to boost retailers while showering unrealistic expectations on innocent mothers.  Everyday should be a celebration for the person that cleaned up your vomit, wiped your butt, and displayed your apparent lack of talent in art.  Every. Single. Day.

This year I decided to do something a little different.  In the spirit of the day, I want to celebrate my tribe of mothers.   Those ladies who have walked through thick and thin with me.  These are the women who share their experience, strength, and hope in all areas of their life.   We commiserate when our children are complete assholes.  We band together during the highs and lows of parenting.    These women are my life line.

I also want to acknowledge those mothers who have lost a child.  These are the courageous women who teach me everyday to not take a single moment for granted.  These are the individuals who despite the hole in their heart, surge forward, twisting the tragedy into something that will help others .    One friend has made it her mission to spread the message of suicide awareness while another focuses her attention on a local addiction recovery center.  These are just a few examples of how the human spirit can rally and how honoring the loss of their child aids in the healing for them and others.  These women are warriors full of grit and determination.

I am and always will be grateful to have had the honor of being a mother.   Sure, it can be a thankless job, but when I hear my boys utter “I love you, Mom”, it erases any residue that may have built up throughout the day.    Happy Mother’s Day……if you are into that.  Happy Sunday, otherwise.
