On a beautiful Sunday we made our way to Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument about an hour out of Santa Fe.   I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this had been a recommendation of a local tour guide, so we were intrigued to see the interest.  This particular landscape is an expansive geological park featuring hiking trails and wildlife amid cone shaped tent rock formations.  We shimmied through narrow passages and made our way through our 1.5 miles to the top.   Well, I will be honest, two of my friends ventured to the top while my other friend went about 3/4 of the way.  I opted to stay back after seeing the difficult terrain.   You see, the closer you get to the top, the more difficult the journey.  The rocks appeared like steps, but the challenge was how to use your footing appropriately.  With my left knee getting worse, I found a spot in the shade and absorbed this magnificent creation.

So funny how this hike resembled life’s path.  Navigating rough terrain, climbing over rocks that are set in your path, and looking at the adventure as an accomplishment while conquering fear.  I was very aware of the parallel theme.  You see the challenges in our lives are simply the next step in a great adventure.  When I look at it like that, it gives me a unique perspective of accepting those difficulties instead of fighting them.  Saying “yes” instead of thinking of all the ways to say “no”.    It is still a process that I am learning, but as Georgia O’Keeffe said, “I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.”
