Today is the day……maybe.  If, and only if, people stop flapping their gums, posting ridiculous political crap on social media and exercise the right to vote.  We are voting as a family today and we promised Bailey breakfast at Chick-fil-A, if he gets up earlier than he needs to.  The family that votes together benefits society, plus food seems to be a big motivator in getting him to comply.  Sometimes bribery is beneficial.

When Bailey turned eighteen, we had to either go to court for guardianship or do a power of attorney.  For the guardianship, his rights would disappear including his ability to vote.   Brian and I contemplated our options  before deciding to go the route of being his power of attorney.  Once you go to court for guardianship, you can’t retract it.  We wanted Bailey to have choices and honestly, this was what was best for him.

Since then, he has voted in several elections.  While he understand the fundamentals, we do go over his choices and he loves to feel included.   This is all about the democratic process, friends.   If Bailey can vote, what are the excuses of those who choose not to?

I don’t know what the solution is to all the insanity that is flooding our country.  I do know that by showing up and filling out a ballot, I am making a statement.   And while I am voting, I am also honoring those women who fought for MY right to vote.   I am grateful for those who came before me and took a stand.  They are the reason I show up.  It is my “thank you” to them.

So, go forth and vote.   Make it count as if your life depends on it.  Because where we stand right now, I believe it does.
