I woke up this morning to the stillness of my home. The dogs, in their subtle nature, alerted me to their need to go outside and have their breakfast. My family had left in the wee hours of the morning to embark on their journey to Florida. Unexpected circumstances and the holidays have given our family a lot of time together. Don’t get me wrong, I love them. Really, they are a great bunch of people. I would definitely pick them again if there was a selection process for family members, but I just need a little break.

Yesterday, I sat back as they all packed. Normally, I would be facilitating the process. Making sure that Bailey’s clothes matched or perhaps that he doesn’t have large holes in his underwear where his ass is exposed. I might inquire about the sunscreen that needs to be packed or suggesting a pullover if it is cool at night. Okay, I did suggest a pullover and I jumped in when my spouse was searching for his sandals at the eleventh hour. (They were literally right in front of him.) But, I abstained from any other interference. In my head, I was saying, “Peace out, bitches,”.

I believe they need a sabbatical from me as well. It provides them with some much needed male bonding. Bailey gets a reprieve from me monitoring him, Brian gets the boys to himself, and Bryce gets the opportunity to gain a closer relationship with them. It is a win for everyone.

In the meantime, I am looking forward to the alone time. Every woman deserves some time off to nurture themselves. It is an excellent way to slide into the new year. Refreshed and ready for whatever 2019 has to offer.
