Life is in a constant orbit of change. Every. Single. Moment. I am realizing that the aging process has bitch slapped me into oblivion. Her entrance isn’t subtle and while I have made an effort to embrace it, there is a ton of foreshadowing for the future.

While we were out to dinner the conversation my spouse and I had made us sound much older than we were.

“It’s so dark in here. Is this packet of sugar white or yellow?” Brian had tea he wanted sweetened and he was holding two packets that truly were hard to tell which one was which.

“I can’t tell. Do you want a flashlight?”

“No. But did you know that my new phone has a built in flashlight?”

“I just figured out mine does too.” And then we both proceed to show off our lighting ability.

In the meantime, Bryce is annoyed. He pipes up, “Oh my God! This is the yellow packet and how did you people not know that there was a flashlight in your phones?”

We have become old. We complain about the lighting, the loudness and I love to eat by 6. When I saw a group of squealing girls enter the restaurant, I secretly hoped they were seated somewhere else. When they seated us at our booth, I wanted the end, as my bladder dictates that I always need a clear exit point. Brian is left-handed, so the end is better for him. I won because it is annoying the frequency that he would have to move for me.

I don’t mind the changes. It is all a part of the plan of aging. Honestly, I think we are going to be fun, elderly people who use their flashlights a lot and eat by 6. It really is all about the attitude and annoying my boys will simply be a bonus.
