Let me share about day two of “phoneageddon”. (Read my blog, The Phone, to get the backstory.) Every morning, I am up at the ass crack of dawn because the girls aka my Basset hounds, have me trained. Yesterday was no different. By 5:45 a.m., I was positioned on the sofa armed with a cup of coffee and my laptop ready to make some magic with words. It is the ideal situation for writing. Brian woke up an hour or so later. After getting his coffee ready, he settles in a nearby chair. He sips on his caffeinated drink. Both hands on the cup. Staring. Like a freaking psychopath. It was unsettling. It was distracting.

Don’t judge. I own the fact that when I am wrapped up in my writing process, any human presence is not welcome. It isn’t him. It is me. Normally, he is playing a game on his phone or reading twitter while drinking coffee. This staring thing was disconcerting. It was almost as if he were present. Being mindful. Oh, the horror! Joking. Sort of.

While the staring situation with drinking his coffee was disconcerting, I don’t miss his notification alerts. And, my friends, there were a lot. Games. Texts. News. It was like having a shock collar on because my whole body would jolt every time I would hear it. I think he may having a hearing issue.

And maybe it is me having more of a problem adapting. As I am writing this, he is again, drinking his coffee and simply staring. I guess it could be worse. He could be dressed as a clown, drinking coffee, and staring. I hate clowns. That would be really creepy. So, there is my silver lining, friends. As usual, I have to shift my perception to shed some light on the situation.
