It has been a weird week. Between a new caregiver for my Mom (so far, so good), all the hype of the radio appearance for Bailey, and trying to forge ahead with a third round of revisions on my book, my brain just submitted a vacation request. The characters are grating on my last nerve. It isn’t their fault. I am simply picking at every little detail before I submit it to be edited. I think they are ready to go on strike. I don’t blame them. In fact, I may join them.

The problem with writing a book is that I am never going to think it is done. There will always be something begging to be improved or perhaps, a shift in the direction of a character. This process makes me bat shit crazy and gives me insight on why many writers turn to the bottle. It is maddening.

Before I submit it to be edited, there are guidelines that need to be followed. It isn’t as simple as just creating a story. Nope, you have to have it in a certain font, page breaks between chapters, and a litany of other technical crap. I just want to write.

Today, I am taking the day off and giving everyone a break. My characters are currently throwing a ticker tape parade and drinking margaritas. Tomorrow I will resume the tedious revision process and fingers crossed that I can get it finished by this time next week. I would complain to the person implementing the deadline, but unfortunately, that would be me, so it is pointless. The good news is that I see the progress, appreciate my dedication, and know that I am exactly where I am suppose to be. I just wish my characters were grateful, but they are a bunch of divas, so I will simply keep my expectations at a realistic capacity.
