I wasn’t going to go. I had planned to let Brian follow Bryce to WKU. Allowing them to have all the fun of moving all of his crap into his dorm. My thinking was that this isn’t last year. I don’t need to fawn all over him. I already have a year under my belt and this is just a blip. Then I had some revelations.
First, I am nosey. The chance to actually meet his roommate is too appealing. I mean, I might not get to depending on what time he arrives, but I don’t want to miss the potential opportunity. I didn’t get the chance to meet the other two and trust me, I would have loved to have gotten my two cents in with the first one, who insisted on smoking weed in their bathroom. I guess he got lucky, right?
Second, I printed out the school calendar and realized that he won’t be home much. In fact, he may not be home at all until Christmas. While football kept him busy last year, this time around, he is not the low man on the totem pole. Plus, there are home games during fall break and Thanksgiving, which means that he will need to stay on campus.
Of course, we will be in attendance for all the home games and there are times where we have planned to stay the weekend. It isn’t like we won’t see him, but the landscape is a little different and I am in the clutch of adjusting. Maybe part of it is Brian’s new work schedule. Keep in mind that when Bryce came home for the summer, Brian was unemployed. Once Brian started working second shift, dinners were just the three of us. Now, it will be just myself and Bailey.
I am not having a pity party. Scout’s honor. And, for the record, I was a girl scout so I can totally say that. I sold a bunch of cookies, too. Well, actually my Dad did, but it still counts. Anyway, my point is that regardless of this not being our first rodeo, it is hard sending him back. I will miss his sarcastic, funny presence. (I have no idea where he gets that from.) But, as with anything, change brings new experiences and I am grateful that I am open to them. Sophomore year in college, here we come, and I pledge not to ugly cry when we leave him. At least I still have Fathead Bryce.
