After my enlightening conversation with my mother yesterday, I was excited to see a special delivery had arrived. (If you wonder what the conversation was with my mother, please refer to my blog, “Two Words”. You will understand why this delivery was so vital.) You might remember that about a week ago, I ordered ice cream in the middle of the night. I blame the Basset as the queen woke up ordering me to take her out to pee. She is a little demanding. Anyway, I couldn’t go back to sleep, but I was sleepy. Does that even make sense?

Let me say that my sustainable lifestyle change that I implemented 17 months ago, is still going strong. In fact, during this delightful quarantine, I have lost five more pounds and several more inches. That brings me to 5 pounds away from my goal weight. Each month, the program switches it up to keep your body from hitting that wall where nothing happens. This month, it is sugar elimination. Quarantine + Sugar Elimination = A big fat “NO” from me. First, I am not a big sugar freak. I don’t drink sugary beverages. My food isn’t riddled in sweeteners, and I feel like the timing was poor. Do we really want to be stuck in our home while we detox from sugar? Yikes. The beautiful thing about this program, is that I can make the choice about what works for me. That means eating the ice cream that was delivered yesterday.

When the box came with my deliciousness packed inside, I might have squealed. It’s a little pricey, but I justify it since I am not getting my hair done, having a pedicure or basically having a life. After dinner, I pulled out the flavor “Boston Cream Pie”. It is salted vanilla custard sprinkled with chunks of yellow cake and dark chocolate fudge. It was AMAZING! I said, “This is the best thing ever” and my spouse, who is always skeptical, says, “Really? The best thing ever?”. I roll my eyes and allow him a taste. His response was, “That’s good” and I smirked. Of course, it’s good. I ordered it in the middle of the night while half-asleep. It was like a party in my mouth. My taste buds were literally doing the Macarena.

Bryce is even more skeptical than Brian. He tried the Coffee flavored treat and was pleasantly surprised at the flavor. “It’s damn good” was his response. Winning. Apparently, I am talented at ordering items while semi-conscious. I think I will add that to my resume.

I think it is important to give yourself a little grace while we hunker down in our homes. Indulge a little. That serving of ice cream did two things for me. It made me smile, and it replaced the need to bleach my ears after the conversation with my mother. Ice Cream is a problem solver.
