Square Peg ● Round Hole

I don’t want to brag or anything, but I am rocking my scooter. I cruise down the hallway and sometimes, I lift my good leg and extend it into an arabesque pretending I am ice skating. Look, I need to entertain myself. I am still working on backing up as I am lacking in that area. It would be helpful to have a backup sensor.

Yesterday, I was chatting with Bryce. He was telling me about football practice and how they just got their new travel gear. His WKU wardrobe is quite impressive. Then he started telling me how he put together the new scooters that they just had delivered for injured players. Then the comparison between my scooter and their scooters began.

“It shouldn’t have been too hard to put together. Your Dad had mine set up in less than 15 minutes.”

“Well, these are probably a better model.”

Did he just imply that my scooter wasn’t the best?

“Do they have baskets, Bryce?”

“Two of them don’t, but one does.”

I laugh at the absurdity of not having a basket and I bet the one with the basket can’t be taken off.

“Can the basket be taken off?”

“Yep, and it has handles so when you take it off, you can carry your stuff in it.”

Oh, my God! My basket doesn’t have handles.

“Oh, well, that’s great for that scooter with the basket. Mine doesn’t have handles, but it’s still amazing anyway.”

“Sure, it is Mom. As long as you like it, that’s all that matters.”

Patronizing child. He hasn’t even seen my amazing scooter. How dare he dismiss its greatness.

Do you see what non-weight bearing has done? Never in my wildest dreams, did I think that a conversation with my youngest would result in a scooter debate, yet here we are. Look, I don’t have to prove the superiority of my scooter to anyone. I know the truth and that is all that matters.
