This week has been full of activity which has taken me away from writing my daily blog.  Never fear, I have 15 minutes to write this before I am off again and I wanted to end the week on a positive note.    Recently, I have written a lot about emotionally cleansing from unhealthy relationships.  Today, I am taking it to the materialistic portion of my life.

My home looks tidy and everything seems to be in its place.  Behind the closets and cabinets lurk mounds of neatly shoved items that apparently were important at one time – I just can’t remember when.    I decided that it was time for a special cleanse, one that would eliminate the clutter both physically and emotionally allowing our home to breathe.    I turned to my new “bible” called “The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up”, which by the way, lives up to its name.    The book explains the process of not just ridding the space of clutter, but learning how to keep it that way.   I don’t know if you can relate, but my idea of decluttering  is to eliminate one space and then weeks later that space is filled up again.  It is vicious and repetitive cycle.

The basic idea is to really evaluate items in your home.  Do they spark joy?   Do you feel nothing when you hold them?  That is the whole idea of this elimination process…..only surrounding yourself with items that ignite happiness and well-being.    My “ah-ha” came when I was plotting my plan of attack. I realized that many of the relationships that I have detached from,  still linger in my home as there have been numerous tokens that were given to me by those individuals.  By ridding myself of those, I free myself from any emotional “energy” that was left.   So enlightening!

Of course, it is a work in progress, but a goal has been set and, honestly, the first step for me is my willingness to tidy this space.    I am traveling toward an oasis that sparkles in tranquility.
