It always amazes me how the most uncomfortable situations can often lend itself to healing.   A few weeks ago, I was invited to a party with the most awkward delivery I have ever experienced coupled with a teary reaction from my Mother.   Long story, but suffice it to say, I was a little hesitant going.    Relationships are in constant change.  Similar to the weather, their temperature can go from hot to bitterly cold.   I would say that the description for this relationship might lean toward the freeze factor.   I had come to terms with the sudden demise to this connection, but I realized there was still a struggle on their end.

So, I went to this gathering with zero expectations, which is good because, let’s face it, I won’t leave disappointed. Nervous, I entered the festivities and to my surprise, I was warmly welcomed.  Apparently, the years of separation had led to an emotional cleanse of sorts.   The ability to release whatever perceptions that were diluted to allow a redo.   I always am aware in these situations of how closely my Higher Power works with me.  It doesn’t go unnoticed that those individuals have not changed, but I have.

It is really important to remember that in any relationship, waiting for the other person’s behaviors or attitudes to change is futile.  What makes the difference is the internal ability to release, forgive, and move forward.   Although the relationship is forever changed, there is a hope that the connection can be rebuilt on a sturdier foundation.   One thing I must remember is life is full of the unexpected.   Just when I think I know the outcome, the twists and turns of this journey reveal something completely different.   Life would be terribly boring without surprises, don’t you agree?
