Happy Wednesday! Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! You might be wondering why I started my blog with Happy Wednesday when it is clearly the start of the two very important holidays, but you see, it is merely another day. I think it is important to simplify it because people seem to get caught up in the expectations of it all. The expectations of having the Norman Rockwell holiday where the gifts, food, and people are pure perfections. That sounds hideous and unobtainable.
Our holidays are different each year. People gravitate in and out depending on the obligations of in-laws and such. We adapt. Christmas Eve is usually spent with the four of us eating Stouffer’s lasagna while watching Christmas movies. On Christmas Day, we could be at our nephews or entertain a few family members here. We pivot. It works.
Since our children our now adults, the gift giving has now trickled down to the younger generation. Now our adult children get time and experiences during the holidays versus material items. For me, it just loses the appeal of shopping for adults versus children. I know, many don’t agree with me on that, but this is what works for me. You do you, boo.
When people ask me if I am ready for Christmas I scream “yes” because I am not running around buying stuff. I am simply enjoying the moments. As I write this, the Honey Baked Ham is thawed in my refrigerator. Family members are supplying yummy sides and I have festive dishware ready. I will vacuum because no one wants an extra pound of German Shepherd dog hair in their food, but other than that, this gathering is stress free. I get to show up and be present.
Today is just another day. It’s going to be a good one.
