It has been so long since I have written anything, that I almost forget how. Anyway, I am back with my life replay.
Spouse had shoulder surgery. My uncle has entered Hospice care. I decided in all the insanity to pick up extra shifts with my job where I counsel people navigating mental health issues. You see, I might be a couple fries short of a full order. The reality is what I have learned in my vast life experience is regardless of what is going on, life keeps moving forward. I can choose to be paralyzed by the obstacles or I can simply show up and be an active participant.
Through all of this there is so much goodness. My oldest son, who has Down syndrome, has been asked to be the Godfather of his cousin/my great-nephew. That particular moment made me ugly cry. He is over the moon having such an important role. As his mom, I am so grateful for my collective group of nephews who have always had his back.
My yard and home have been a series of animal kingdom moments. First, Larry the Lizard entered my home. This is not his real name as he obviously doesn’t speak, but I thought it was a fitting name. It could be Linda, too. I don’t know. We didn’t have an in-depth conversation about our lives. There was a moment of “oh shit” and chaos ensued. Dogs saw Larry. I promptly put them in “place” where they are trained to stay until I say “free”. They listened but kept giving Larry the stink-eye. Poor Larry. He just wanted to figure out how to get back outside. I got a cup and my plan was simple….get Larry in the cup and release him. Larry is a fast little shit and he went under the couch. At this point, I include Larry as one of my pets. I have no idea where he went. I wish him well and apologize for my screaming as he slithered away from me.
A few days ago, I was taking Myla out for her morning potty break. I love the quiet of the early morning and was just enjoying breathing in the fresh air. I was instantly distracted by a scratching sound coming from fence at the far end of the yard. I looked toward the sound and saw the most adorable baby raccoon. I couldn’t enjoy the encounter because I have Myla who will lose her shit if she sees that adorable creature. I did my best to distract Myla while my new friend, Rodney or Rachel (again we didn’t exchange information), watched us with curiosity. I managed to get my oblivious four-legged child inside without an incident. However, that did not end the raccoon reality show that I was about to observe.
Rodney/Rachel jumped into our backyard. Another raccoon popped up on the fence and at that point, I realized that must be their mom. She didn’t look happy with her offspring’s actions but seemed unclear on how to get her “child” back over the fence. Meanwhile, Rodney/Rachel is just sitting in our backyard not phased in the slightest that his mom is losing her shit. Apparently, raccoons don’t jump, so she was in a quandary as our fence is six feet tall.
I watched as this momma stretched her body down the fence and snatched Rodney/Rachel up and disappeared back down the fence to safety. I bet Rodney/Rachel is grounded forever. Plus, that mom is a badass.
That’s the recap, friends. All is well even when life seems too lifey.
