I don’t know about you, but I detest triangular communication. You know, when someone tells you to tell someone else something that they could easily share directly. Are you confused? Exactly. It is like the adult version of the telephone game that I used to play as a young girl before I grew up to not enjoy the company of others. (If I do spend time with you, know that you are in a very select group. You’re welcome.)
Anyway, I wasn’t participating, but simply an observer of it. I did notice myself commenting on the process. Asking the person involved if they realize that this is triangular communication. Well, duh, of course they knew what they were doing.
Look, I am not perfect when I communicate, but I will say, I strive not engage in triangular communication. It is a time waster. Also, my thoughts are that it sends the message to the receiver that they weren’t important enough to be contacted directly.
Just my two cents. The world would be a better place if direct communication where at the forefront. The lesson here is say what you mean, mean what you say, but don’t say it mean and say it to the person directly. Less confusion and the odds of getting the message correct are in your favor.
