Can we agree that many times social media can actually be positive? I mean, take away the opinion pieces like politics or the unicorn posts where everything in Stacey’s life – spouse/kids/pets are so “amazing”, it can be a pretty nice platform. Oh, wait, I forgot the copy/paste crap where your mother will die if you don’t share the post about the endangered goats in India or if you simply “like and share” you will win a villa. Anyway, aside from all of that shit, I enjoy it.

The last two days have been filled with a lot of gratitude. I shared my success at pitching my book along with celebrating my oldest son’s birthday and people embraced my happiness. The emotions were palpable. The support and encouragement literally oozed off the page. Isn’t that the way it is suppose to be?

I am not sure why we are stuck in a cycle of negativity. That it is seemingly easier to tear people down instead of building them up. Sure, some people are assholes. That is kind of the status quo, but like anything else, we make a choice on how to present ourselves to the world.

When I was attending that writer’s workshop this weekend, I found a community where being supportive and encouraging was the theme. Before I pitched the first time, the woman sitting next to me said, “Wow, the agents are all really pretty. That makes me really nervous”. Such a vulnerable statement. I turned to her and said, “Everyone has their insecurities, even them”. I didn’t want to share that I might crap myself or perhaps vomit because, well, I didn’t know her well enough. Plus, she looked a little alarmed that I shared that statement. I literally have no filter. But, it was an authentic representation of the human condition.

Nobody is better than anyone else. We are all doing the best we can. But isn’t life a little bit better when we encourage one another? There is enough room for everybody. It isn’t a competition. Spoiler alert….we all die in the end.
