Okay, 2020 was the least desirable experience for us all. Sure, there were probably some good things to focus on but on a Yelp rating it is a lonely one star. However, I learned some new skills that could be added to my resume along with my growing love for online delivery services. Oh, and my new, favorite appliance courtesy of being trapped at home.
I have become pretty proficient with Zoom. It is a skillset that I really didn’t imagine having, yet here we are. The first few times attending meetings were like nails on a chalkboard. People not muting themselves or perhaps positioning their camera, while lying on a couch where all you see is their nose. I particularly enjoyed those who would take us on a tour of their home as they fixed a snack. It was a relief when people figured out the novelty of turning off the video capability.
I love my Air Fryer. This has been one of the best expenditures and we use it constantly. Who would have thought that I would fall in love with an appliance? Well, it is 2020, so I suppose we can expect the unexpected. It has partnered well with my online food delivery options. Between Home Chef and Schwan’s, in-person grocery shopping has been sliced. Okay, that’s not totally true. My spouse continues to travel to Kroger for Diet Canada Dry Ginger Ale and their attempt at tortilla chips. He buys them in bulk because that is his jam. And, he makes an appearance at Costco for other items, but I enjoy the convenience of home delivery. It limits human interaction which has been the theme of this year.
Most all I learned that I take a lot of things for granted. Like the supply of toilet paper, gathering with my friends, hugs, and the freedom to choose whether I want to socialize or not. I learned the true meaning of realistic expectations, mindful thinking, and powerlessness. I thought I had those pretty well mastered, but 2020 taught me that I can do better, be better, and act better. Still a work in progress, but this year has help me put on a new pair of glasses.
