I am in preparation mode. It is not for a vacation or any large move, it is my strong desire to age gracefully that has me preparing. Aging gracefully is a tall order as I would not describe myself as graceful, but it really is my intention.

One morning, I woke up very stiff, had not slept well, and my legs felt heavy. This continued for a while and I thought, well, I guess I just have to live with it. My thought process was that this was what aging felt like. Then I got pissed and realized that I have a choice…I can simply accept it or I can figure out ways to move through it.

I love to do research. While I was perusing, I found something that could help with all the physical pain that I was experiencing. Drum roll…….the vibration plate. The vibration plate is designed to help with circulation, balance, metabolism, mobility along with reducing pain and stress. SIGN ME UP!!!!

Three weeks ago my new best friend was delivered. I have incorporated it as an enhancement to my workouts. Five days a week, I workout for twenty minutes, then I recover on my vibration plate. It feels like a full body massage while it helps the lymphatic system drain. At night, I sit on it and allow it to relax me before I go to bed. After three weeks, my legs are looking smoother because my dimples are fading. I no longer have stiffness waking up in the morning and my legs don’t feel heavy as I walk. Plus, it has helped my vertigo basically disappear and my face isn’t swollen when I wake up. WINNING!!!

I know that aging is part of the life package, but how I go about it really is the key. While many have jumped on the Pickleball or Mahjong bandwagon, I am gravitating to quieter activities. Meditation has become a huge part of grounding myself and relieving stress. Adult color books provide hours of mindless entertainment that I even take when I visit my Hospice friends. While many have lost their fine motor skills, they are able to help me pick out colors and enjoy watching me create a vibrant picture. All of these give me peace and joy. That is the essence of how I want to age.

Of course, I love to connect with my beautiful soul sisters and that too helps regulate my serenity. Each adaptation lends itself to mind, body, and spiritual well-being. I feel like aging is an extraordinary process where we get to become the person we were intended to be.
